YIG is a massively scalable object storage in production use at China Unicom storing about 4PB of data.
YIG extends Minio backend storage aggregating multiple Ceph clusters to form a massive storage resource pool. The pool can easily scale up to exabyte (EB) levels by adding new Ceph clusters with minimal performance disruption. To accomplish this goal, YIG needs a distributed database to store metadata. YIG supports TiDB and MySql.
Benefits:
Avoid unnecessary data movement due to rebalancing
Avoid performance degradation when adding new host or disks to Ceph clusters
